Introduction to JC
Information
As an IT professional with ABA approved certification as a paralegal I decided to create a few programs for paralegals/legal assistants. They may also be helpful to solo practioners who cannot afford the high-priced software of the major developers. JScan solves the problem of dealing with .mdi files if one does not have Microsoft Office 2003 or later. Also, many updates to Windows break the file association with MS Office Document Imaging. JBase is a poor-man's Lexis-Nexis Condordance database program. And finally, JClip, is a result of seeing many times on different sites the frustration of legal professionals copying and pasting between Word and WordPerfect. I hope you find them useful.

JBase
Freeware by JC

Image JBase is a database program designed to be used with TIFF and MODI documents. File attributes and text are extracted from the document images and inserted into a Microsoft SQL Compact Edition 3.5 database. There, documents can be grouped and organized and additional identifying fields can be filled-in as needed. Documents can then be searched by Windows file attributes, user assigned attributes or for text located within the document. The actual files can be located anywhere on the local machine or even on the network. JScan 2.0 , an OCR tool for TIFF and MODI files, is fully integrated within JBase, providing a comprehensive solution for dealing with document images.

JScan
Freeware by JC
Image JScan is tool for converting and viewing images; specifically, document images. A  document image is an image (or picture) of a paper document such as that produced from a scanner or a fax machine. The difference between a document image and a regular image is that with the help of Optical Character Recognition (OCR), the text, as well as the document's formatting, can be read and stored within the image file. Those image files supported by JScan include the well-established TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) with the file extension *.tif; and the Microsoft Document Image Format, also known as a Microsoft Office Document Image (MODI), with the file extension *.mdi, introduced with Office 2003. JScan was designed primarily for using the MODI format and working in conjunction with the Microsoft Office tools.

JClip
Freeware by JC

Image JClip is a very small and simple program that sits in the system tray. When run, it strips all of the text formatting from the current contents of the clipboard. Its primary use is for copying and pasting text between applications that don't support the same formatting or styles. A good example is copying and pasting between word processors such as Microsoft Word, Wordperfect, OpenOffice and various email applications. Another common use is in Web form's text fields which only accept plain text, and a straight copy from a program such as Word produces strange and inconsistent results.

Microsoft Word Tips
Instruction
ImageOne of the things I find tiresome, especially in this day and age is typing. I strive to have to do as little as possible. I created this simple to follow instructional for creating legal letters in Microsoft Word, in this case version 2003. Working with the Outlook address book, it simplifies the addressing, salutation, dating and closing of letters. But, its best attribute is in dealing with the significant differences between letters to judges and those to all others.
